Just a Thought…

Recently I’ve been eating, sleeping, and breathing music. It’s just one of those on and off obsessions I have, and right now it’s on. Probably because my friend and I were talking about our favorite bands one day andĀ  found out that we have the same taste. We both like alternative bands, bands like Boys Like Girls and All Time Low.

Now, we like bands that are either unknown or bands that are considered emo or stupid at my school. Most people at my school have never heard of AllĀ  Time Low, and if I say I like My Chemical Romance, people think I’m emo. If I say I like Avril Lavigne, people think I’m a freak. Ugh. I hate this, because I am the furthest thing from emo you can be. It doesn’t stop me from telling people that I like these artists, but I can always anticipate their reaction.

The thing I’ve found out about these people who judge me by what I listen to though, is that they’re just popular wannabes. They only listen to what is “cool” and nothing else. They make fun of people who honestly like what they like. This is so stupid. I’d rather have a great time listening to music that I like and be considered a freak then have a boring time listening to popular music and be considered cool.

For anyone who’s curious, my favorite artists right now are Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, My Chemical Romance, Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Fall Out Boy, and Matchbox Twenty. What about you?

Trends, Fads, etc.

There are trends all around us. This year at my school, it’s Ugg boots and curly hair. It’s T-Pain and Soulja Boy. People who don’t follow these trends, who get cheaper boots and have straight hair, or who like Boys Like Girls and Avril Lavigne, are considered outcasts. This my friends, is the real world.

Like I said, trends and fads are everywhere. At school, on TV, at the mall, EVERYWHERE. You see commercials that say “Wanna be cool? Buy our product.” You see posters saying “UGGS: The latest boot fad.” But you know where I’m also seeing it? The one place that I thought I could escape the latest fashions - my site, and my friend’s sites.

It’s not as bad as the real world though. The trends actually make sense. Like how iFrames are out, and DIVs are in. That deserves a thumbs up. What’s in right now: DIVs, top navigations, one column layouts, and I’ve been seeing a lot of green in layouts lately. What’s out: bright colors, iFrames, layouts with all over patterns, and off-center layouts. Now, you might be thinking “but those were always ‘out’!” Well… maybe. But in my little “community” of people - Lily, Clem, Mari, and Mary - those things used to be cool way back in the day. We all had those “out” things. Then one person moved on, and we all moved on.

I’ll say it again - trends are everywhere. But that doesn’t mean you have to follow them. I’ve just noticed that the Internet trends are for the better. They usually look better, work better, and just are better in general.

American Idol: Cruel or Harmless?

For those of you who don’t watch American Idol, it’s a show that is basically a singing contest. People compete to be “the next American Idol” and get voted off by us viewers each week. Right now, the auditions are going on.

That’s the thing - the auditions. Before the people who are trying out get to be on TV, they have to be listened to by some random people who put them through. These people put the good and the bad through, for TV purposes. But when the bad singers get on TV, the judges laugh in their face and totally destroy them. And, while it’s funny, you can’t help but feel bad for them because they really think that they’re good and they’re being completely embarrassed in front of the entire world. Also, you know that some of the people who audition are mentally ill, and for the judges to completely destroy them is pretty cruel to me.

So I think that the auditions are both funny, and cruel. But they’re pretty much only funny if the person is dressed in costume, or really think they’re good and they’re AWFUL. What do you think?
